LABID is one of the governing bodies within CICS.NOVA that assumes a central and distinctive role: a laboratory for creativity and scientific innovation conceived as an interface infrastructure, with the mission of fostering engagement with scientific and societal challenges in the everyday life of the centre, from a multidimensional and interdisciplinary perspective.
Its relevance derives not only from the scale and multifaceted nature of CICS.NOVA, but also from the diversity of scientific activities undertaken by the centre. In this context, LABID operates as a key interface structure, with activities designed to strengthen connectivity among members, promote cooperation, and cultivate a shared scientific culture, thereby contributing to the overarching strategic development objectives of CICS.NOVA.
In pursuit of this mission, LABID seeks to design, implement, and monitor processes and activities oriented towards four core objectives: (1) to promote reflection within the CICS.NOVA community on societal challenges; (2) to embed these challenges within the centre’s practices and outputs; (3) to foster mutual awareness and collaboration among members of different research groups; and (4) to develop a scientific culture that reinforces the collective identity of the centre.
Looking forward, LABID’s primary mission will be to enhance interactions among research groups by promoting initiatives that address the four societal challenges identified in CICS.NOVA’s mission, generating tangible outcomes and ensuring the broad and consistent dissemination of knowledge.
