Nota Biográfica
Helena Serra is a sociologist and Professor at NOVA.FCSH. She served as Director of CICS.NOVA from March 2020 to January 2025. Her academic career began in 1991 at ISEG-UL, where she co-founded SOCIUS, later serving as board member (2004–2008) and President (2012–2014). Since 2014, she has been teaching and coordinating undergraduate and postgraduate courses at NOVA.FCSH, including designing advanced training curricula. She coordinated the Master’s in Sociology (2017–2023) and supervises theses at master’s and PhD levels across several institutions. At NOVA.FCSH she was Assistant Vice-Dean (2015–2017) and Vice-Director of CICS.NOVA, where she also led the Health, Population & Well-being Research Group (2018–2020). She enrols several research projects and publications and regularly presents papers (as keynote speaker or participant) in the most important sociological fora, either in Portugal or internationally; she is involved in various editorial bodies of national and international scientific journals and has held leadership roles in ISA and ESA, including ESA’s Executive Committee (2015–2017).
