Bio note

Associate Professor, Department of Geography and Regional Planning, Researcher at the Interdisciplinary Centre for Social Sciences (CICS.NOVA), NOVA-FCSH, Sustainability and Socio-Ecological Systems Research Group. PhD in Geography and Regional Planning. Vice-President of the Coastal Education & Research Foundation and associate editor of the Journal of Coastal Research. The coordination of his academic objectives has been centred on training, research and teaching oriented towards Human Geography, Integrated Coastal Zone Management and Public Participation in the Planning Process, with the development of innovative methodologies for beach management and tourist carrying capacity in protected areas. He has been part of the teams responsible for drawing up 6 Coastal Zone Management Plans, where he was responsible for Load Capacity studies and public participation processes. Chair of the International Coastal Symposium (ICS2009, Lisbon), which was attended by more than 450 participants. He has published more than 50 articles in indexed journals and presented more than 100 papers at national and international events.
