Bio note
PhD in International Health (2006). IHMT/UNL, Lisbon, Portugal, Thesis: Health and Migrants: Representations and Practices of Health and Disease in the Cape Verdean Community in Lisbon (Published in 2009). Master's Degree in Demographic Studies (1997), Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Lisbon, Portugal. Thesis: Contributions to the Study of Differential Fertility in Mozambique: The Case of Maputo City (1996). Degree in Sociology (1993), FCSH/UNL, Lisbon, Portugal. Associate Professor at Universidade Aberta (2000), Department of Social Sciences and Management, teaching social sciences courses. Her research focuses on migration, refugees, transnational family dynamics, integration, health and migration, and the integration of immigrant students. Sociologist and demographer, she is a researcher at CICS.NOVA/FCSH UNL and a collaborating researcher at the Centre for Global Studies (CEG) and the Centre for Migration and Intercultural Relations Studies (CEMRI), both at the Open University. She collaborates on various international and national projects. She has published several articles in specialist journals, as well as books and book chapters, in the areas of health and migration, refugee integration, immigrant student integration and the impact of the course on the lives of Open University graduates.
