Bio note
With a PhD and professorship in Sociology from Universidade Nova de Lisboa, he is a retired professor of Sociology at FCT Nova, where he has been teaching since 1983. Previously, he was an assistant professor at the University of the Azores (1980-83). He was coordinator of the Doctoral Programme in Technology Assessment (2009-23) and a visiting researcher at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), the Fraunhofer Institute (ISI) in Germany, Brown University (United States), McMaster University (Canada), and the Université de Lorraine (France). He is a founder and member of the Portuguese Sociological Association, APSIOT, and APDSI. He currently directs the Technology Assessment Observatory (since 2015) at CICS.NOVA. This Observatory represents Portugal in the European Parliamentary Technology Assessment (EPTA). He is the author of the book ‘Robotics and Work’ published by Glaciar and FLAD in 2018. He is a member of the Steering Committee of the global GERPISA network for studies on the automotive industry. He has contributed to many international scientific journals, with works in the areas of sociology of technology, work, and artificial intelligence.
