Ana Paula Gil has a PhD in Sociology, specialization in Development and Social change, by the School of Social Sciences and Humanities (FCSH) of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa. Since 2010, she is Assistant Professor at NOVA FCSH. She was the coordinator researcher of the study Ageing and Violence (2011-2014), funded by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) (SFRH/BPD/46014/2008). She is carrying out a research project entitled Ageing in an institution: An interactionist perspective of care (SFRH/BPD/107722/2015). Her academic interests include ageing, long-term care and family care, and elder abuse.

Research Interests:

Aging and health. Long-term care. Family care. Violence against elderly people.

  • "Envelhecer em instituição: uma perspetiva interacionista sobre a prestação de cuidados", FCT, (SFRH/BPD/107722/2015);
  • Coordination of the project “Ageing and Violence”, approved by the FCT (2011-2014) PTDC/CS-SOC/110311/2009);
  • Project "Improvement of epidemiological health information to support public health decision and management in Portugal-towards reduced inequalities, improved health and bilateral cooperation", designated by INSEF – National Health Examination Survey, with the reference: INSEF/05DEP2014 (2014-2016);
  • EHES - European Health Examination Survey - developed between 2009 and 2011 – was funded by DGSANCO (DG Health and Consumer, Public Health Programme, European Commission);
  • Consultant for the research project "module 65"senior Issues module» (PTDCCS-SOC1175932010) promoted by the Institute of Sociology - University of Porto (2012-2013).
