Jorge Sequera holds a PhD in Sociology obtained from Complutense University of Madrid. He was enrolled as an FCT postdoctoral research fellow at the Interdisciplinary Centre of Social Sciences, New University of Lisbon (2016-2018). Currently, he is Assistant Professor and Researcher at University of Valladolid (Spain) and collaborator researcher at CICS.NOVA, New University of Lisbon. He has been the principal investigator of the FCT Portuguese project “"Living like a local. Tourism and urban transformations in contemporary Lisbon. The sociospatial effects of AIRBNB" (2017/2018) and he is currently the principal investigator of the Spanish R&D project “Efectos socioespaciales de Airbnb. Turismo y trasnformación en 4 ciudades de España” (2019-2021). Jorge Sequera was awarded with the 1st World Social Science Fellow in Sustainable Urbanization (International Social Science Council, UNESCO) and is co-founder of the association on cultural and urban intervention “Oficina de Urbanismo Social” in Madrid. Jorge Sequera’s research focuses on key phenomena of urban transformation, such as lifestyles, social class, residential segregation, social exclusion, control society and biopolitics, gentrification, touristification, urban social movements and social protest.
